Marbella has two personalities and the trick is using both. The Golden Mile and Puerto Banús deliver the loungers, the yachts and the beach clubs that built the reputation. Twenty minutes away, the Casco Antiguo is orange trees, whitewashed lanes and dinner at a fraction of the price.
The beach clubs
The famous names sit along the Golden Mile between the town and Puerto Banús. Sunbeds are booked ahead in July and August, usually with a minimum spend, and the day starts far later than you think — nobody arrives before noon.
When to go
June and September are the sweet spot: full heat, full service, noticeably lower prices than the August peak. May and October are lovely but some clubs run reduced hours.
Where to stay
The Golden Mile for walk-out beach access and the classic resorts. The old town if you would rather eat well and wander. Puerto Banús itself is loud — brilliant for a weekend, wearing for a fortnight.
